What to See and Do in Moniga del Garda
Welcome to Moniga del Garda, on the southwestern shore of Lake Garda in Valtenesi area, a village with heart, history, and lakeside magic — and one of my favorite corners. It’s the kind of place that charms you effortlessly, without needing to shout for attention. And if you’re arriving around lunchtime (or sunset, if you ask me), treat yourself to a meal at Moniga Porto Restaurant overlooking the harbour. It’s perfect for a leisurely lunch or a romantic dinner — elegant dishes, lake breezes, and a front-row seat to the yachts bobbing on the water.
All you have to do next is stroll down to the beach, where calm waters and relaxed vibes are waiting…

Beaches, Boats & the Portside Charm
Moniga opens up to a charming, modern and well equipped harbour and beach area. It’s a peaceful spot in spring and autumn, while in summer it comes to life with sunseekers, families, and boats coming and going. Whether you’re there for a quick dip or a full day of lake lounging, it’s a beautiful stretch of shoreline.
Explore Its Historic Castle

The fortress is located just west of Moniga’s village center, perched gently atop a vineyard-covered hill. Thanks to its strategic yet sheltered position—unique among castles of the Valtenesi—it has remained remarkably well-preserved over the centuries. Inside, there are rows of small houses (yes, people still live here!), making it feel more like a hidden hamlet than a historical site.

Take your time walking through — the cobbled paths, old stone walls, and sweeping views of the lake make it unforgettable. Just outside the castle, a peaceful public garden and a small bar await if you want to pause for a drink with a view.
Little Churches Full of Character
Just across from the castle is the Church of San Martino, built in the 1400s. It’s simple and serene, with lovely interior details. If you’re in the mood for a countryside moment, head just outside town to the Church of the Madonna della Neve, surrounded by olive trees — quiet, humble, and timeless.

Why Moniga Feels Like Home (But Better)
Moniga isn’t about drama or spectacle It’s where castle walls hug you and the lake sparkles just right, and a glass of wine or a Pirlo always seems like a good idea. And if you enjoy wine, this is a special place: Moniga is where Chiaretto rosé was born, and today you’ll find excellent local producers offering tastings in peaceful vineyard settings in the area.
✨ Tip: If you’re visiting in early summer, don’t miss the Valtenesi in Rosa festival — a lakeside celebration of Chiaretto with tastings, music, and sunset views.
Whether you stay a day or a week, something about this little place lingers. If you’re planning an overnight stay, I stayed at La Giolosa Wellness Resort and would absolutely recommend it. Located right by the lake and within walking distance from the port of Moniga, it offers elegant apartments, curated interiors, and a serene garden with a pool.
